PETER L. WALTON was born in Watertown, New York. Mr. Walton attended St. Lawrence University, graduating cum laude in 1987. After working for a time in the financial industry in Boston, Massachusetts, Mr. Walton attended law school at George Washington University, Washington, D.C., graduating with honors in 1992. He was admitted to the New York State Bar in 1993. While in law school, Mr. Walton was a member of the George Washington Journal of International Law and Economics and authored an article for that publication entitled “Piracy of North Pacific Salmon: Economic Implications and Potential Solutions,” V. 25, George Washington Journal of International Law & Economics, 1992.
Mr. Walton began his career at the firm of Conboy, McKay, Bachman & Kendall, LLP, where he was a member of the litigation practice group for several years before joining the firm’s Business Practice Group. After 29 years with Conboy, McKay, Bachman & Kendall, LLP, Mr. Walton became a partner in the firm of Kendall, Walton & Burrows. In June 2024, Mr. Walton, with his paralegals of many years, formed his own law firm, the Walton Law Office, located in Watertown, New York.
Mr. Walton primarily practices in the areas of Business Law, Business Formations, Commercial Real Estate, Residential Real Estate and Lending, representing both lenders, individuals and corporate entities. He also practices in the areas of Estate Planning and Administration and has vast experience in many other areas of law.
Mr. Walton currently sits on the boards of Brookside Cemetery and Hospice of Jefferson County. He previously served on boards at Jefferson Community College, Samaritan Summit Village and Samaritan Keep Home. He and his family live in Alexandria Bay, New York.
Under the Corporate Transparent Act, enacted in 2021 to curb illicit finance, owners of limited liability companies and corporations are required to file a Beneficial Ownership Information Report (BOIR) which provides information about the individuals who own or control the companies.
If your company existed before January 1, 2024, it must file its beneficial ownership information report by January 1, 2025.
If your company was created or registered on or after January 1, 2024, and before January 1, 2025, it must file its beneficial ownership information report within 90 calendar days after receiving actual or public notice that its creation or registration is effective, or after the Secretary of State or similar office first provides public notice of its creation or registration, whichever is earlier.
If your company is created or registered on or after January 1, 2025, it must file its beneficial ownership information report within 30 calendar days after receiving actual or public notice that its creation or registration is effective.
Filing is simple, free of charge and secure. Companies and corporations are required to comply with filing the BOIR on the website www.fincen.gov. There are substantial penalties for failure to register.
